NEDA-Proficient End-of-Life Doula

One of the last things Sam’s great-grandfather said to him before he died was “I’m being promoted”. This impacted Sam deeply, because it was the first time he was with someone who had an optimistic perspective about the end-of-life and viewed death as more of a transition to be excited about, instead of an ending to be feared.

In 2004 Sam had a near-death experience that challenged everything he thought he knew about life & death and blessed with him an understanding of what his great-grandfather said to him all those years before.

Sam sat with his grandmother during her finals days and distinctly remembers the subtle interactions she had with him, even though she was in a comatose state at the time. This showed him the importance of being with someone during the end-of-life transition and reminded him of the Ram Dass quote: “We’re all just walking each other home.”
