Loving, Dying and Letting Go

Loving, Dying and Letting Go

What does it mean to love?
What does it mean to die?
And how can we learn to “let go”?

Erin Collins RN BSN CHPN, offers a transformative and personal exploration of these questions in this one-day workshop, using experiential exercises, journaling, meditation and lecture.

Have you recently experienced grief due to death or the loss of an important relationship? Are you a caregiver working with the elderly or bereaved? Do you wonder what it means to face your own death, or the death of those you love? If so, this workshop is for you.

We will focus on key themes present in Amy Wright Glenn's second book Holding Space: On Loving, Dying, and Letting Go published by Parallax Press.
Available on Amazon.com

a limited number of copies will be available at the workshop as well.

Workshop $175. Scholarships available.

Free Film Screening and Discussion

Join Partners in Care Community Education and Peaceful Presence End of Life Doulas for a screening of the Oscar-nominated documentary film, End Game, followed by a lively discussion to help us change the way we talk about, plan for, and experience the last stage of life.

One of the greatest mysteries of life, according to the Ancient Indian Epic, The Mahābhārata, is that "all around us people are dying and yet no believes it will happen to them!" 92% of people interviewed say it is important to talk about end of life wishes with their loved ones; 32% have actually done so. And yet, the human mortality rate is 100%. We will all die, and we don't know when, so let's reimagine our relationship to life, death and dying.

Free Film Screening and Discussion

World Muse, BendFilm and Peaceful Presence End of Life Doulas present a free community screening of End Game, the Oscar-nominated documentary about medical providers who "practice on the cutting edge of life and death". This film weaves together the stories of the palliative care team at UCSF Medical Center, the Zen Hospice Project, and BJ Miller MD, a physician specializing in palliative and hospice care.

Following the film, Erin Collins RN BSN CHPN, of Peaceful Presence Doulas, will moderate an inspiring discussion about perspectives on living and dying well, how to start a conversation about end of life wishes with family and friends, and a Q&A about hospice and palliative care choices at the end of life. Through film and discussion, we will start to reimagine how our community talks about, plans for and experiences the last stage of life.

Dearly Departed: Death-tellers and Community Altar

In Autumn, it is said that "the veil is thin", meaning that we here on earth are closer to those we have lost as ancestors, friends and family. It is no coincidence that All Saints and All Souls Day as well as El dia de los Muertos occur in the Fall, at the beginning of November.

In honor of this precious time, we are hosting a Community Altar at the Hive in Bend, OR. Community members may come to the Hive during open hours and leave a photograph, memento, LED candle or sweet to commemorate Dearly Departed loved ones.

In addition to the Altar, we are hosting a "Death Tellers" event. As we believe that death is as natural as birth, we are modeling this event after birth-telling events which highlight the many ways women give birth in the world.

Death tellers will highlight the varied experiences we all have with death: whether it is a near-death experience, a precious moment or time at the bedside of a dying person or conversations with someone who is departed. Join us and share your story in an open and safe environment. We will have time at the end for discussion and questions.

To participate as a story-teller, please submit a short description of what you'd like to share to peacefulpresencedoulas@gmail.com. We will select a variety of stories and confirm by October 17th.

Entry is by donation; please pay at the door what feels honorable in your heart.

This event is co-hosted by Peaceful Presence End of Life Doulas, Hand in Hand End of Life Doula Services and The Hive.
